Ryan Pasquill

 Ryan burst onto the scene nearly a decade ago with an audacious flash of Countdown to Disaster E8 6b in Ilkley’s Rocky Valley in 2002. His laid back modesty belies a drive and dedication that has since seen him flash three more E8s; End of the Affair at Curbar, Gaia at Black Rocks and Cornelius at Ina’s Rock.

In 2009 Ryan solved one of gritstone’s last great problems – the wall left of New Statesman at Ilkley. Gerty Berwick, an old time name for an utterly modern testpiece, weighed in at E9 7a and was climbed in front of an admiring John Dunne.
His bouldering highlights include The Ace at Stanage and Spectre at Bishop. Both problems rate 8b and his ascent of Spectre was immortalised in Chris Doyle’s cult film West Coast Gimps. Ryan has sport climbed 8c+ at home and abroad and hopes to go one better in 2010 by making the second ascent of Mutation 9a at Raven Tor, despite a ‘hectic’ work schedule.
